Meet Our Staff

Dave Beijer
Executive Director

David Beijer is the Executive Director of CarePartners PACE. He is a graduate of State University of New York at Cortland and served as a teacher in an upstate New York school system before returning to school to become a physical therapist. He graduated from Western Carolina University’s Master of Physical Therapy program in 1999 and practiced as a physical therapist in multiple settings. He joined CarePartners in 2005, beginning as a staff physical therapist and later becoming manager of an outpatient therapy clinic. He then served as Director of Operations for CarePartners Supportive and Palliative Care. In 2013 he began his new role developing the CarePartners PACE program to serve the community in both Buncombe and Henderson Counties.

Amy Cohen, MD
Medical Director

The CarePartners PACE Medical Director is Dr. Amy Cohen. She is a native Western North Carolinian having grown up in Morganton, NC. After attending UNC Chapel Hill as an undergraduate studying biology, she then entered ECU’s Brody School of Medicine. After completing an Internal Medicine Residency in Greenville, SC, she was accepted into the MAHEC Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program in Asheville. Dr. Cohen is board certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine. Prior to accepting the PACE Medical Director position with CarePartners, she worked as a faculty member and then as the program director with the MAHEC Geriatric Fellowship Program. Dr. Cohen joined CarePartners in 2013 and is excited to continue to serve Western NC by helping to develop the PACE program.

My philosophy:
What I love about geriatric medicine is that it is an ever changing, complex challenge. Not only is the physiology of an aging body different and fascinating but it makes us think about all the internal and external forces that allow a person to function and thrive in their environment. My philosophy is very consistent with that of PACE—my/our goal is to provide care that helps to keep an individual as functional as possible, with the highest quality of life, until their final days. Working on the PACE team is rewarding because we all work together (nursing, social work, therapy, pharmacy, etc), creating individualized elder care with that one goal in mind.

If you are worried about a frail elder in the community and their ability to remain safely at home due to health issues, perhaps we can help.
